Joint statement by the Pankow Integration Advisory Council and the Participation and Integration Committee

Hundreds of thousands of people have taken to the streets in Germany, Berlin and Pankow in recent weeks. They showed their protest, concern and anger at the inhuman ideas that, according to media reports, were spun up and discussed by people here in our country. They show their determination against hate and incitement against people who are to be ostracized and disenfranchised on the basis of racist ideas and ethnic definitions. They demonstrate for freedom, diversity and human rights. It is the biggest democratic movement since the fall of the Wall.
We too agree: Human dignity is inviolable. People in Germany, Berlin and Pankow — regardless of their origin, religion, disability, gender and other affiliations — should be safe and able to develop freely.
We call for an active response to all racism, anti-Semitism, Muslim hostility, anti-Christianity and all discrimination and misanthropy. We warn against indifference and silence.
We call for decisive solidarity with those who find themselves targeted by any misanthropy.
We make it clear that we are watching closely and that everything we do is geared towards ensuring that National Socialist ideologies will never again become a reality in Germany. It threatens our democracy and freedom. We pay attention, warn and care, and exercise our democratic rights!
We celebrate the diversity and plurality of our country and all the people who are part of our society. We counteract fear of the supposedly others with dialogue and understanding. We don't stop learning from the Nazi past of our country, in which we like to live together.
Never again is now.

Berlin, March 2024

Mohammed El Ouahhabi
Speaker of the Pankow District Advisory Council for Integration and Participation
