Statement by the Treptow-Köpenick District Advisory Council for Participation and Integration on the racist attack on Monir Khan
With horror and deep dismay, the Treptow-Köpenick District Advisory Council for Participation and Integration learned of the brutal attack on Monir Khan on the night of May 3-4, 2025 in Berlin-Baumschulenweg. The attack was not only cowardly and cruel, but also showed clear signs of a racist motive. The previous evidence, including neo-Nazi smudges and repeated sighting of far-right groups at the scene of the attack as well as the documented increase in racially motivated incidents in Baumschulenweg, suggested this conclusion.
It is another serious racist attack, as has already happened several times this year. Only this time the victim became known by name. This attack is part of a disturbing series of far-right intimidation attempts against people with a history of migration and flight and those who are committed to peaceful, diverse coexistence. It affects us all
— as citizens, as democrats, as people.
As the District Advisory Council for Participation and Integration, we not only strongly condemn this act of racist violence. We stand in solidarity with Monir Khan, his family and all people who are committed to tolerance, respect and human dignity in Treptow-Köpenick. Our sympathy goes out to the other victims, and our resolute protest goes out to the perpetrators and their inhuman ideology. From our own concern, we are aware of the resulting feeling of uncertainty on roads, squares and public transport every day from 18:00 onwards. Women in particular suffer as well as shift workers. We call on the Senate Department for Home Affairs and Sport to pursue this attack with all determination. Specifically, we invite you to work for:
To screen potential far-right networks for risks faced by people with a history of migration and flight.

manner.

We need a clear political stance against racist violence at all levels. Racism must have no place in our city — not in Baumschulenweg, not in Treptow-Köpenick, not in Berlin.
Please accept our urgent demands in the fight against racism.
